Small village of Dordogne, on the banks of the Vézère, Aubas takes place not far from Montignac, about sixty kilometers from Périgueux. It is located in the heart of the Périgord Noir, near Terrasson-Lavilledieu and Condat-sur-Vézère.
Populated since prehistoric times, the village of Aubas really developed from the twelfth century with the construction of its communal church. Mainly agricultural, it turns gradually towards tourism thanks to authentic and preserved landscapes and an architectural heritage of interest.
Its proximity to some of the most beautiful sites in the region also makes it a must-visit tourist spot in Dordogne.
Built in the seventeenth century and modified in the nineteenth, the castle of Sauveboeuf is now listed in the Historical Monuments. Open to the public, it is today the property of Claude Douce, a French advertising. Built in the same style as the Palais du Luxembourg in Paris, the building has a large elongated main building framed by pavilions with dormer roofs. Inside, you can admire the gallery, the staircase of honor or the beautiful frame.
While strolling on the spot or in the surroundings, do not miss the castle of Brégedelle of the sixteenth century or the manor of the Feletz of the thirteenth century with its house and its chapel. The latter has been transformed into a farm.
Listed in the Historical Monuments, the church Saint-Cyr and Sainte-Julitte was built in the 12th century, then modified in the 15th century. Its western facade was redone in the nineteenth century, but has retained its Gothic portal. Inside, you can admire two altarpieces classified as Historical Monuments. The first, in stone, is from the sixteenth century and represents four scenes of the Annunciation, the Adoration of the Shepherds, the Last Supper and the Arrest of Christ. The second, of the eighteenth century, is in wood, and reveals four paintings surrounding St. Joseph holding the Child Jesus and representing the Nativity, the Flight into Egypt and the Holy Family.
On the hillside of Escaleyrou, you can enjoy a gazebo and an orientation table with incredible views of the Vézère Valley and the three castles around Sauveboeuf, Petite Filolie and Fleunie.
A farmers' market is held on Wednesday nights in July and August.
Empty dressing and flea markets are offered throughout the year.
A pancake festival is held every year for Easter Monday.
The festival of the village proposes its animations the third Sunday of June.
