Souraïde is a charming town of about 1300 inhabitants (the Zuraidars) on the departmental D918 between Espelette and Saint-Pee-sur-Nivelle.
In the province of Labourd, 2.5 km from Espelette, a few minutes from the Basque coast (Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Biarritz) and 8 km from the Spanish border, Souraïde is a nice little pastoral village in the heart of Nature in the hinterland, which will welcome you with its hilly landscape and a relaxed atmosphere. You are surrounded by nature on the hills stand white dots flocks of sheep and off the first Pyrenean peaks. The town lies on the path of Baztan route of the pilgrimage to Saint-Jacques de Compostela that crosses the Pyrenees to the west and by the collar of Belate, 847 m.
Souraïde is part of the AOC production area of Espelette pepper and the cheese Ossau-Iraty. The activity is mainly agricultural and a serpentine career (compact igneous rock) is active.
Its current name is Basque Zuraide.
