Yet in the middle of the fourteenth century during the Hundred Years War, La Chapelle-Faucher was burned by the troops of the Black Prince, that is to say, Edward Plantagenet, son of the king of England.
Decades will be needed before the parish finds some vitality, and again the region was affected by the wars of religion.
Essentially rural, protected by his rebuilt castle, the village has a thriving agricultural activity and the town more than 900 people after absorption in 1827 of the parish of Jumillac-de-Cole (now called the hamlet of Petit Jumilhac).
Today, the population of La Chapelle-Faucher is only about 430 inhabitants but its economy is boosted by a large pallet manufacturing unit. Tourism is also flourishing with a heritage of quality, a preserved environment and a true gourmet feel to the Perigord tradition.
In terms of heritage, a discovery circuit allows enjoy several religious buildings or civil interest.
This is the case of the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, whose foundations date back to the twelfth century during the implementation of the priory which gave birth to the village. Looted and partially destroyed during the Hundred Years War, it was rebuilt in the fifteenth century, the remains of the ancient portal and its decorations becoming the "southern" front of the new church. We notice a cupola on pendants at the transept and apse in half dome inherited from the original building but consolidated. Moreover, unfortunately plastered frescoes adorn the interior walls and a Madonna and Child is observed. The unit is classified.
See then, the old parish church of the Petit Jumilhac, also protected as historical monuments. Romanesque style, it is an old Templar chapel dependent on the Order of Malta. Note the typical bell tower of Perigord, and circular apse adorned outside corbels in the shape of human heads. Inside, the chapel contains an altarpiece.
Finally, note that it remains that the remains of the priory Puymartin and a recent bill chapel is dedicated to Orthodox worship.
Regarding the civil heritage is obviously the castle built in the fifteenth century on the foundations of the original fortress of the thirteenth is the jewel of the town.
Entirely classified, as its cylindrical dovecote, he served as a refuge for Huguenots threatened in 1569. Dominant and monitoring the Cole Valley, it was with a gatehouse in the seventeenth century, when the old walls were razed fortified and the drawbridge that had outlived its usefulness. Rather massive, flanked by two round towers, the partially restored castle remained privately owned. One can appreciate that from the outside.
Some mansions finely crafted, old mills built on the course of the river complete this survey.
