Trédrez-Locquémeau is a coastal town of Côtes-d'Armor, in Brittany, about ten kilometers west of Lannion.

The communal territory (10 km²) is located west of the mouth of the Leguer, a coastal river, and was inhabited since prehistoric times and during the Gallo-Roman era.

The village is made up of two villages: Trédrez, in the west, set back on the land of the eponymous cliffs, and Locquémeau, which is home to fishing and pleasure ports.

Trédrez erected as a parish in the tenth century becomes under the Ancien Régime a powerful seigniory. As for Locquémeau, founded by a hermit in the sixth century, it developed in the nineteenth century with the rise of sardine fishing, the last of which took place after the Second World War.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Trédrez-Locquémeau, which has a high quality historical and environmental heritage, welcomes its first tourists. The municipality where one counts about 1500 inhabitants preserved its wild sites, its inheritance, and a port activity. It is a popular stopover and resort on the Pink Granite Coast.

Things to see and do

A visit to the town can begin with the discovery of its historical heritage. We will discover with interest the church Saint-Quémeau, on Locquémeau, built in the sixteenth century in a Gothic style. Inside, you will see its altarpieces of the eighteenth century, ex-voto of fishermen, a banner of the seventeenth. Note also that the building now has stained glass made in 1990.

On Trédrez, the Notre-Dame church dates from around 1500, in a style of flamboyant Gothic. We will notice his "steeple-wall" and an apse with multiple (re-entrant) angles characteristic of the style invented by Philippe Beaumanoir. Later revisions followed the original style, preserving the overall unity of the building. Inside, a baptistery of the sixteenth century, rare sculptures and furniture such as a Tree of Jesse of the sixteenth century (family tree of Christ), a figure of Christ and banners of the seventeenth century are worth a look. As for the outside, it is a good example of a parish enclosure with its wall, its ossuary and many crosses.

At the discretion of the various hamlets and farms, many crosses, fountains and old houses line the locality. In addition, several menhirs are also visible.

This route will end with the Coatrédrez Castle, built in the 15th century, considered one of the oldest castles in the department. Featuring a main "L" shaped body, with a polygonal tower in the corner, it has a well, a dovecote and a chapel. This former seigniorial building is a private property that was the subject of a restoration campaign in the 1990s.

As for the environmental heritage of the locality, several must-see sites deserve attention. This is the case of the cliffs of Trédrez, to the west, a protected natural area of ​​several kilometers which is one of the largest wild areas of Côtes-d'Armor. On the cliffs, the vegetation reveals the marine influence while at their feet, at low tide, amazing geological formations are revealed.

Near the port of Locquémeau, the Vorlenn pond surrounded by pebbles is home to an exceptional flora and fauna. Panels have been installed to apprehend the richness of the site.

Finally, we will not forget the tip of Dourven, to the north, which ends with a plateau of rocks seemingly plunge gently towards the sea. If its west coast is beaten by the winds, its protected eastern flank seems to dominate a lagoon adorned with 'exotic trees. On the site, a contemporary art gallery has been opened to the public. These different historical and natural sites can be the object of many hikes. Between cliffs, port and tip, the town has several sandy beaches that are suitable for swimming and idleness: beaches Notigou, Kirio and Toul ar Vilin.

The nautical base which allowed to initiate to the sail or to rent boats closed however in 2008 following a storm.

We can also discover with pleasure the fishing port. If the activity is less intense than in the past, it remains nevertheless provided and picturesque. From November to April, the boats join Saint-Quay-Portrieux to fish scallops. But from May to October, they are moored in Locquémeau and every night, bar, monkfish or even lobsters arrive (not exhaustive list). The always spectacular sales take place at the fishermen's house which adjoins the docks.

On the "pleasure" side, in summer, dozens of boats anchor in the bay.

The last Sunday of May, garage sale organized by the parents of students at the municipal campsite of Keravilin.

The last weekend of July, even years, the festival of sardines revives the traditions of yesteryear and entertainment programs fun, musical and gourmet...

From late July to mid-August, the festival Voce Humana (classical music and singing) is performing a concert in Trédrez church.

The third weekend of September, the festival of music and dance swing beachfront is a step in the town.

At the beginning of November, the Small Festival of Arctic Peoples presents documentaries, Inuit songs and debates.
