The Château du Rouvoltz is located in the new commune of Jarzé Villages, in the department of Maine-et-Loire, 10 km west of Baugé-en-Anjou.
This is the seat of a stronghold mentioned since the Middle Ages on the lands of Rouvaux, east of the village of Chaumont-d'Anjou and southwest of the town of Jarzé.
Guillaume de Cornesse is mentioned as lord and owner of the place in 1458. He was succeeded in the 16th century by Jean de Carbonnier and Pierre de La Haie, who sold the then castle to François Grimaudet in 1595.
The residence of the The period is fortified: it is a manor surrounded by a moat. It was first replaced by a more modern residence in the 17th century and then, in 1845, construction of a new castle began at the top of the estate. The plans are made by the architect Pierre-Félix Delarue. According to the fashion then in force, it is an eclectic style revisiting neo-Gothic and Renaissance, with some clearly "military" aspects. The three-level dwelling is framed at the corners by polygonal towers. The whole is covered with slates and the window decorations, in particular, do not lack nobility.
Outbuildings complete the ensemble designed by Sébastien Delletre between 1854 and 1856.
The gatehouse of the old manor has been preserved to access the estate.
As for the park, including a pond, it was also redesigned in the 19th century.
