Buhl lies at the heart of wooded hillsides Florival Valley, near Lake Lauch (alt. 950 m) and the Markstein ski station (15 km, alt. 1,424 m). This is one of the ideal places to find the ridge road and admire the different valleys of the Vosges and see the massive Alps through a clear sky.
Buhl offers both great natural recreational areas and an amazing heritage that carries visitors from the Middle Ages to modern times, the castle ruins Hugstein the remnants of the industrial age.
The town houses a beautiful 15th century triptych saved from destruction during the French Revolution and attributed to the school of Martin Schongauer.
Buhl is the birthplace of Maurice Koechlin, whose role in the Eiffel company was crucial for the construction of the famous Eiffel Tower and design plans for the Statue of Liberty in New York.
