Built around 1230 on the territory of the commune of Buhl, in the Haut-Rhin, the castle of Hugstein was intended at the time to defend the abbey of Murbach and the entrance to the valley of Florival.
Its ruins, classified as Historical Monuments, constitute the only medieval military remains of this size in the region of Guebwiller. Maintained and cleaned regularly by the municipality, the Hugstein castle still reveals a rounded rampart which is integrated a circular dungeon on the side of the mountain. The set is freely accessible to the public at any time.
