Algajola

Built in the first half of the 16th century, on the ruins of the Genoese tower of Lomellini, the castle of Algajola was then the residence of the governor of Balagne for Genoa until the second half of the 18th century. Built with its feet in the water, it served as a defense device against the Genoese. Ravaged by pirates in the 17th century, it was subsequently relieved of its ruins. Listed as a Historic Monument, the Algajola fortified castle is a private property not accessible to visitors.

When passing through this little Corsican paradise, don't forget to go to the Saint-Georges church. A 15th century building burned down by the Saracens, it was completely remodeled at the beginning of the 17th century and integrated into the village's defensive system thanks to its square bell tower. Inside, you can notably admire a Descent from the Cross from the 17th century Italian School, listed as a Historic Monument, as well as an 18th century ebony gallery organ, also listed.

By the sea, the Saint-Michel chapel recently benefited from a restoration campaign. Built in the 12th century, it is dedicated to sailors.

To enjoy the sunny days, head to the beaches, where it is possible to try diving, sailing or kitesurfing. It is also possible to board the trinichellu, the Balagne tramway which runs along the most beautiful beaches between L'Île-Rousse and Calvi.

A fireworks display is organized every year on August 15.

In October, time for the Strett'in Arte festival, an event dedicated to street theater for children and their parents.
