In the heart of the Balagne region, Pigna is a delightful and charming village. Its flower-filled narrow streets and the pretty square are a real delight. Furthermore, crafts and music are really honoured here: The Festivoce festival in July is dedicated to polyphony (traditional Corsican vocal music), dance and theatre.

On the heights of the inner Balagne over L'Ile Rousse, lies the small village of Pigna. This town in Corsica is a beautiful village charm, true haunt of artists and artisans who made it famous.

The village attracted by its beautiful flowered streets and its main square is a true delight. It is one of the finest examples of the architecture of this region flourish medieval villages set on rocky spurs.

blondes houses and blue shutters are in this common program where old professions have set up shop. Paradise of cultural tourism and heritage preservation, Pigna also charms visitors by the beauty of its landscapes and its views on the Mediterranean Sea.

Pigna is also an excellent base for exploring the other gems of Balagne, like Sant'Antonino, ranked among the most beautiful villages of France, or Aregno and Algajola.

Things to see and do

Charming medieval village Pigna still can admire an impressive architectural and cultural heritage, recalling the rich history of the town and the region.

Consisting of two towers with spiers charming rounded, Church of the Immaculate Conception deserves a visit. Inside, there are two works classified as an historic monument, the brawl between peasants of the seventeenth century, The Last Supper and the early seventeenth century also.

Former pens for cattle, the Vaccaja was transformed into open-air auditorium. Built in stabilized raw earth, it can accommodate 220 people at concerts. Listed historical monument with its indoor scene of a dome eight meters in diameter, it is the last testimony of ancient cereal activity of Balagne.

Built in the late 1990s, the auditorium of Pigna was built on the precepts of the architect Hassan Fathy. Composed of 110 seats, it annually hosts voice concerts.

Walking through the cobbled streets or stairways of the village, one appreciates the many other shops and art galleries of the artists and artisans who occupy Pigna. During the ride, we appreciate the surrounding olive groves and the stunning views of the beautiful bay of Algajola.

Events and festivities

Pigna, charming Corsican village with many attractions, each year offers some great cultural events.

Each year in July, is one of Pigna Home Estivoce land of the famous music festival and old songs. On this occasion, the village hosts unique vocal concerts in its auditorium, small lanes, the church or the village square. The auditorium also houses other concerts the rest of the year.
