Nice Carnival is one of the most important events on the French Riviera in the winter. For over a fortnight, the city moves to the rhythm of the festivities. Humour, irony and poetry are in store at this big popular festival.
The Carnival is arranged around two separate events: the Carnival Procession, by day and night; and the Flower Battle.
On Place Masséna, the allegorical and burlesque floats parade by, accompanied by displays, street arts and international musical groups. These carnival processions are like voyages of discovery... A world tour in 90 minutes!
Facing the sea, the grace and elegance of the flower battles are a reminder of the power of flowers, and highlight the region’s floral heritage. Another more poetic aspect of the Carnival, which is inseparable from the other, more ironic aspect.
As well as its festivities, the Carnival period offers a wonderful opportunity to discover Nice in the winter: the mild climate, light-filled skies and French Riviera lifestyle. Its natural sites, cultural and artistic life, and fine gastronomy offer a wide range of thrilling experiences!
