Nivillac

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Morbihan

Surrounded by a natural mosaic of meadows of yellow thatch and green wood, Nivillac, a small rural village sympathetic Morbihan, opens its doors to you. Its hilly landscape bordered by hills unfolds on the banks of the Vilaine in the valley of the same name. In Nivillac, you will breathe between a nature opening on large spaces close to the city. Indeed, the recent bridge, built in 1996 between Nivillac and Marsan, places the town only 30 minutes from Vannes and a few minutes more from Nantes.

Habitat of prehistoric man, the land was occupied since Prehistory. Ideally placed in a clear space allowing the arrival of the predators and on the edge of a river, everything was made there to welcome the civilization. And the Romans were not mistaken, making Nivillac a place of worship and life of a certain Roman notorious Nivillis.

Things to see and do

The wide spaces of Nivillac invite to discovery. A walk for the less athletic and hiking more than 10 kilometers for the most experienced in this sport await you from the village. Between wooded forests and open meadows, the panorama passes before your eyes, intense and relaxing at the same time. If you like, you can climb the hill of La Lande de la Vollée. From there, after crossing a thick wood and meeting its inhabitants, you will have a unique point of view on Nivillac surrounded by fields and bordered by the Vilaine. Besides, this magnificent river is navigable. You will have the opportunity to climb its course aboard a boat to make a cruise which will allow you to visit the surroundings of Nivillac, seen from the water. On earth, it is not only hiking that is on the program. You can also cross the fields and woods with a little guide: a donkey. This unusual walk with your guide is very popular with children and adults alike. Le Marais des Ânes also proposes to go further. As a true crossing of the American West, you will crisscross for a day the green expanses of Nivillac aboard a trolley pulled by a donkey. If you prefer mountain biking, you will be served too! A circuit with a difference of 760 meters will lead you from the banks of the Vilaine in the heart of the woods through the groves. A technical and physical course that requires good physical condition and a level of mountain biking confirmed.

During your walks, you can make a well deserved stop to admire the old stones hidden in Nivillac. In the village and the surrounding area, you can discover the pretty Saint-Cyr chapel and the fountain of the same name, the Sainte-Marie chapel, but also windmills including that of Borrigan in the Bodeuc estate and Saint-Pierre- St.Paul. Although the latter has little architectural appeal, since it was built in 1901 to replace the one dating back to 1063, it still houses a remarkable painting by José Ribeira, the "blessing Christ". But it is the port of Foleux, straddling the communes of Nivillac, Péaule and Béganne that will delight your eyes. Boat enthusiasts will enjoy this charming marina and fishing. Its verdant shores welcome you for a picnic, while the fishermen leave by boat to launch their line in the clear waters.
