Rural municipality of Nièvre, in Burgundy-Franche-Comté region, Limanton takes place in the vicinity of Chateau-Chinon, about fifty kilometers from Nevers.
The village is illustrated in the second half of the eighteenth century through its specialization in the breeding of cattle Charolais breed. Old Gallo-Roman center, the town as we know it today was born in 1795 from the merger of two ancient parishes, Anizy and Limanton. In addition to its agricultural activity, it is also now turned to tourism, unveiling an architectural heritage of great interest and witnessing centuries of history.
Surrounded by preserved and authentic landscapes, the village of Limanton attracts for its hiking trails in the middle of nature, as well as for its calm and its particular charm.
Manor of the sixteenth century, the castle of Anizy is now listed as an historic monument. The building is built on the remains of a fortified house of the twelfth century, on a mound surrounded by ditches fed by the Aron. Of this enclosure which surrounded all the motte formerly, there remains only one big round round and stocky. The castle, private property not being visited, is now a square building Renaissance style known for its monumental fireplace.
Strong house of the fourteenth century, rebuilt in the fifteenth, the castle Arcilly takes place on the remains of an old building of the twelfth century.
The gardens of the castle of Limanton represent a beautiful reconstitution of historic park labeled Jardin Remarquable. They are inspired by the French gardens of the 17th and 18th centuries according to the school of Le Nôtre.
Built in the second half of the twelfth century and now classified as an historic monument, Notre-Dame and Saint-Paul de Bellevaux abbey is largely ravaged by a fire in the fourteenth century and the sixteenth century by Protestants. Transformed into a farm in the late eighteenth century following the movements of the French Revolution, it still has a chapel, buildings conventual, a library, a chapter house, or a cloister some arcades openings are still visible. The porterie, from the end of the 15th century, reveals a large Doric porch with pediment.
Several marked hiking trails allow you to discover the local fauna and flora, as well as the architectural heritage of the village of Limanton.
At the port of Panneçot, a restaurant offers menus based on products from local producers.
In mid-July, the summer party with a flea market, a fishing contest, a country ball, a meal or fireworks.
The association Le Barrage organizes several activities during the season.
