The former residence of the Counts of Nevers, the charming village of Moulins-Engilbert, gateway to the Morvan Regional Nature Park, will delight lovers of walking and old buildings, with its pretty floral streets, picturesque old houses, Church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste and the relics of its feudal castle. As well as its built heritage, every Tuesday morning, Moulins-Engilbert hosts an internationally famous Charolais cattle auction market.

A themed house of the Morvan ecomuseum, the House of Livestock Farming and the Charolais, open to the public from Easter to late October, tells the story of agriculture in the Morvan, the development of production methods and the life of farmers since the Old Regime.

Moulins-Engilbert

Moulins-Engilbert is a small town of the Regional Natural Park of Morvan, from an altitude of 225 m at the confluence of two rivers and the Garat Guignon. In the nineteenth century, the city has many mills, as well as tanneries and tile.

Ancient medieval ruins of its castle thousand year old center and give it a strong identity. So you can discover its fifteenth century church and its furnishings, the Ursuline convents and Picpus, the tower of the Bank remains of the fourteenth ramparts, Commagny priory of the twelfth, etc. Much of this heritage is classified or listed under the Historic Monuments.

A surprise awaits you stroll through its streets Moulins-Engilbert set up a circuit murals trompe-l'oeil dedicated to Morvan and its traditions. Each project is accompanied by a flash code allowing you to learn more about the artist and the theme depicted.

You can also come to discover the internationally renowned market dial and House of Livestock and Charolais who talks about the evolution of this region and its farming activity.

This green area is ideal for outdoor sports. In addition, its woods, meadows, streams and aqua-recreational pool are very significant in the summer sun.
