The manor of La Coutardière is located in the new town of Hauts-d'Anjou, in Maine-et-Loire, 28 km south-east of Château-Gontier-sur-Mayenne.
Precisely located north of the village of Brissarthe, it was originally the seat of a rural seigniory dependent on the manor of Villechien in Angers.
From an architectural point of view, there is a main building from the 15th century which was remodeled at the end of the 16th and beginning of the 17th century. The estate includes a chapel dedicated to Saint-Antoine de Padoue, built in 1531, and decorated with mural frescoes.
Sold during the Revolution, the manor of La Coutardière then became the center of a farm, but the buildings have retained their noble appearance. Only one element of the estate, to the south-east, was rebuilt in the 19th century. On the other hand, the elegant facade of the house with windows with fluted pilasters remains one of the jewels of this manor, which is also protected as a historical monument. As for the chapel, it has recently undergone a meticulous restoration which highlights its original paintings.
Property is always private. The mansion is however open to the public all year round for visits to the exteriors and the chapel, exclusively by appointment. Price: 5 euros. Information on +33 6 62 69 93 75.
