Les Aix-d'Angillon is a village of Cher, in the Center-Val de Loire region, 20 km north-east of Bourges.
The territory of the municipality that crosses the courses of Colin and Valentigny remains essentially rural and devolved to agriculture (livestock, orchards).
Seat of a prosperous seigniory covering two parishes (The Aix and Valentigny, which regroup then), the site is endowed with a castle as of XIe century.
In 1301, the lord of Sully grants to the inhabitants of the small city a charter which institutes a free city administered by six prud'hommes.
At the end of the sixteenth century, the castle and the ramparts are undermined by the Leaguers who blame Henry IV for his Protestantism.
Bourg of about 1900 inhabitants, Les Aix-d'Angillon is now a town known for its heritage and its green environment, near the capital of Berry. A pleasant stop in the Loire Valley.
In terms of historical heritage, a discovery of the locality begins with a step in the dungeon of the old castle. It is the only testimony of the fortress formerly located to the west of the Porte de Bourges, where were built since the schools of the commune. The dungeon was rebuilt in 1427, during the last episodes of the Hundred Years War.
To see then, the church Saint-Germain, which dates from the twelfth century, devolved until the 17th to a community of Augustinian canons. Linked to the castle of the lords of Sully, it became the parish church in 1678. Note the elegant character of the building considered typical of the Romanesque style in the Berry, and rich materials (ocher stones and blanket in brown tiles). Note that the apse is crowned with a beautifully decorated arcature. There remains only one chapel of those which staked the arms of the transept. The facade as the gable pierced by three windows were remodeled in the nineteenth century.
In the heart of the village, old houses built for some on medieval bases can still be observed.
On the environmental front, the town prides itself on having a beautiful pond of more than one hectare, road of Tendrée, fed by the stream of Valentigny. A place for a stroll, it is also a space devoted to fishing from mid-March to mid-September. The management is ensured by the local association which regularly raises fish (trout, carp). Cards sold by the day: 5 euros. Information on +33 2 48 64 41 55.
