The sixth airport in the New Aquitaine region in terms of passengers, La Rochelle - Ile de Ré airport is currently used for national and international air transport, as well as for leisure and tourism activities.
Opened in 1938, the first aerodrome closed during the Second World War, before a new airport really took off in the second half of the 1940s. The first regular connections to Paris will then be put in place in 1967. Today, the site offers several seasonal or regular flights to Paris, Lyon, Ajaccio, Marseille, Nice, London, Charleroi, Porto, Dublin or Birmingham, Manchester and Southampton.
