The Château de La Motte is located in the town of Épervans, in Saône-et-Loire, about ten kilometers south-east of Chalon-sur-Saône.
Located to the east of the town, on the edge of a forest, the site shelters a feudal motte from the 11th century.
The estate, which has become the seat of a real castle, belongs at the end of the 18th century to François Mercier, the last lord of the place, and also adviser to the Parliament of Burgundy. The descendants of his second wife owned the castle until 1970. The estate then became part of a riding club for some time before being bought in the 1990s. It was then that restoration work was carried out. insiders and that the chateau is listed in the Inventory.
Today, still surrounded by a moat, the castle has retained a very beautiful restored porch tower, a chapel housed in a more modest tower than the first, and half-timbered dwellings dating from the 15th century, when the building served as a relay for noble travellers… But there are also old fortified elements, built in stone.
