Church Saint-Léger

Monument in Guebwiller

Church Saint-Léger - Monument in Guebwiller

Located in the municipality of Guebwiller, in the Haut-Rhin, the church Saint-Léger is a religious building listed as a Historical Monument since the mid-nineteenth century. Installed in the current upper city, it covers the foundations of two previous buildings placed there in the seventh century.

Built probably in the second half of the twelfth century, it has undergone many changes over the centuries, including the addition of side bays. A Gothic apse has also replaced the original Romanesque architecture in the fourteenth century.

Decommissioned during the French Revolution, the Saint-Léger church became a place of worship in the first half of the 19th century. Inside, you can still admire a stained glass window depicting the Assault of Armagnacs against the city in 1445.
