After the drought of 1858, apples became rare… resulting in a shortage of decorations for Christmas trees during that period! A glassmaker in Goetzenbruck had the idea to make the first glass baubles. The tradition started with his first productions.
Now, in Meisenthal, Moselle, at the International Centre of Glass Art located 2 kilometres from Goetzenbruck, the blown glass Christmas bauble tradition is kept alive, with respect for all the skills of the craft.
This cultural and artistic hub, whose production extends to all decorative objects that can be made from glass paste, will teach you all about the art of fire at the old Meisenthal glassworks.
Workshops for young ones teach children all about hot glass work and glass bubble blowing.
The history of Christmas bauble design is illustrated by several collections, in particular the traditional and contemporary collections.
During the Christmas period, there are even more demonstrations and exhibitions. You can of course buy these unique ornaments on the premises, at the shop, as well as at the Christmas markets in Besançon, Montbéliard, Nancy and Metz.
