From Caudiès-de-Fenouillèdes, take the D9 towards Fenouillet / Fosse. After the railway, turn right, the start of the GR 36.
You climb the vineyards and arrive on a forest track. Go on the left to pass in front of the chapel Notre-Dame de Laval. Here we can picnic.
Walk on the D9 road, which goes up to Fenouillet / Fosse. Pass over the St Jaume Creek Bridge, continue to the big bend where there is yellow markup. Take the rather wide path which goes up very strongly at the beginning. Cross a large meadow at the foot of the castle ruins of Castel Fizel which is on your left. Then walk on the Roman road to a fork at 564 m altitude.
Go on the right to find the GR 36, then again on the right. Arrive at the Col de Mas. Cross and go down the road to find the GR to Fenouillet. Walk to the ruins of Castel Sabarda. Go past the church, take on your right, the restored street that leads to a fountain. Turn right, 50 m further, turn left, the stone staircase. It becomes a path that goes up to the ruins of Castle Saint-Pierre, facing Castel Sabarda.
Go down to the village and turn right behind the mill to join the gorges of Saint Jaume and the GR 36 to Caudiès-de-Fenouillèdes.
