Located in the department of Haut-Rhin in Alsace commune Wittelsheim is attached to the city of Mulhouse. It has just over 10 000 inhabitants. Its history is closely linked to that of potash mines operated from the early twentieth century until about 2004 for commercial purposes. It is indeed in the town of Wittelsheim the first potash deposit was discovered. The well will be called Amelia mine in honor of Amelia Zurcher who was the instigator of the basement of the polls in order to save the family farm from severe bankruptcy.
