It is on the Alsace wine route, between fertile hills and majestic silhouette of the Vieil Armand that we discover the small village of Hartmannswiller. Although battered during the Great War because of the proximity of the battlefield Hartmannswillerkopf, the town still possesses a considerable heritage, the image of his fortified cemetery. Surprising defensive building, this is the only example of this type Alsatian architecture with that of Hunawihr.
Along the walls can be seen in its green, Castle Hartmannswiller. A few steps from the cemetery, it was to be the seat of the family that gave its name to the place: the "Hartmanswilr".
The turning lanes where enthroned rural and cross fountains, several old houses are worth a look.
The village, 90% destroyed during the First World War because of its proximity to the Hartmannswillerkopf still contains remarkable small houses door headers vintage 16th and 17th centuries. These buildings, like the church of the 15th century, give the old part of the village an authentic charm.
