Located in Pays de la Loire region, the village of Mesquer takes place in the department of Loire-Atlantique, not far from the very tourist town of Guérande. Known for its oyster and mussel activity, the town is only twenty-five kilometers from Saint-Nazaire.
The commune of Mesquer was occupied from the Gallo-Roman period to exploit the salt through a saline located not far from there. But it was in the Middle Ages that it really developed, with the establishment of a priory. The farming activity of Mesquer reached its peak around the 19th century, with exports all over the Atlantic coast of Europe. Even today, the town produces its own salt labeled Guérande salt.
This seaside resort is very family-friendly thanks to its gastronomy based on seafood, as well as its unspoiled landscapes. The commune of Mesquer also has a modest architectural heritage of great interest.
