Our Lady of the Assumption of La Grave is classified a historical monument since 1959.
The church dominates the village. It is surrounded by the characteristic cemetery. Lombard Romanesque style this magnificent building has been dated to the 11th century. Placed under the protection of Our Lady, she is the oldest religious center of the township. The White Penitents chapel, behind Our Lady of La Grave no longer houses built in these days. Founded in the 17th century, it was completed by confraternities of penitents Hières and Chazelet now disappeared and that of Villar- d'Arêne still standing. Only chapels chief towns remained. Religious fervor is manifested even in the distant pastures where we explored on horseback, oratories and cross missions per dozen.
