Charming little town of Ain, in region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Jujurieux takes place about thirty kilometers from Bourg-en-Bresse, in the area controlled appellation wines of Bugey. It is located near Dover, Mérignat and Saint-Jean-le-Vieux.

Occupied since prehistoric times, as evidenced by the remains found there, the territory of Jujurieux developed in the Middle Ages, especially with the foundation of a priory in the twelfth century. Strongly affected by the successive invasions of the Huns and the Saracens, the town resurgent in the nineteenth century thanks to the silk industry, especially under the influence of the nearby city of Lyon.

Today Jujurieux continues to attract visitors with its authentic charm and its architectural and historical heritage to discover during a stay in the region.

Things to see and do

Ranked historic monument for the wall paintings of the vault of the entrance porch and part of the second floor of the tower and entered for some of the buildings and the park, the castle of La Tour-Ladders is an ancient tower strong fourteenth century. This former stronghold is particularly known to house in its interior five magnificent frescoes depicting a view of ancient castles. Made in the seventeenth century, and they reveal the tower of Saint-Denis and the castles of Allymes, St. Germain, and Poncin Pont d'Ain.

Also listed historical monument, Cossieux tower is a pigeon that currently do not visit but which can be admired from the outside. Nearby you can also discover the Chenavel medieval castle transformed in the nineteenth century. However, some remains of the original building as the vaulted cellars, the large tank of the court, sections of walls or the remains of Gothic chimneys.

Memory of the heyday of the silk industry in Jujurieux, silks CJ Bonnet are now listed historical monument. Created in 1835, they saw their business stop in the early 2000s before being converted into a museum by the General Council of Ain and the community of communes of Rives Ain - Country Cerdon. The institution has made orders for the largest high-fashion houses like Dior, Chanel, Ungaro, Lacroix and Armani and Calvin Klein now has more than 300,000 objects, tools and pieces of fabric in its different rooms, tracing the history of an important industry in the region.
