Municipality of Ariège, Occitanie region, Daumazan-sur-Arize takes place in the heart of the Plantaurel massif in Volvestre. It is located on the edge of the department of Haute-Garonne, on the banks of the Arize, about thirty kilometers from Foix, not far from Latour or Sieuras.

Formerly owned by the Count of Carcassonne, the village of Daumazan-sur-Arize later became the fief of the Count of Foix. Important town in the Middle Ages, as evidenced by some vestiges, it has undergone many changes over the centuries, especially in the nineteenth century with the construction of the great hall of the city center.

The one that took its final name in 1958 continues to attract visitors each year with its exceptional architectural heritage and its ideal geographical location.

Things to see and do

Part Romanesque, the Saint-Sernin church has been listed as a historic monument since the beginning of the 20th century. It has a 15th century bell tower, but the rest of the building was built in the 12th century. You can admire an original chevet, a double-sided cross of the fifteenth century or a treasure open from June 1 to September 30.

While strolling in the center, you will appreciate the charm of the medieval village with notably the Cutlery, beautiful half-timbered houses, or even the hall built in the second half of the XIXe century.

Lovers of walks will appreciate discovering the banks of the Arize or the Montbrun stream, or take the many marked hiking trails.

Guided tours of the village are organized in July and August on Sundays at 11am, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm. They are available in French and English.

The town also has several sports clubs.

Events and festivities

The market is held every Friday morning. A local fair is also offered every first Friday of the month. An agricultural fair takes place every second weekend of September.

On July 14th, there will be a local feast with belote contests, dance evenings, a torchlight procession, a fireworks display and a pétanque competition.

The third weekend of July, the Earth Festival of Colors / World Music offers several concerts of artists from around the world.

Between June and August, place at the arts festival of the city of arts with its exhibitions of paintings and photographs and cultural events.
