Givry is a village of Saône-et-Loire, in the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region, 10 km west of Chalon-sur-Saone.
The town is famous for its vineyards, its basement has already been deemed auspicious by the Romans.
In the Middle Ages and then under the Ancien Régime, belonging to the Duchy of Burgundy, the small town continues to prosper thanks to its wine, which will later be said to have been Henri IV's favorite.
It has a heritage of quality, civil and religious, and in the twentieth century, its proximity to Chalon-sur-Saone also makes it a residential commune valued for its preserved environment (forests, ponds).
Animated and commercial, Givry which has more than 3800 inhabitants will delight fans of green tourism as of course enthusiasts of oenology eager to discover a rich terroir producing mostly gamay red wines. To taste obviously in moderation...
A discovery of the city can begin with a journey including the main elements of its rich architectural heritage.
The city hall, built in the eighteenth century, before the Revolution, at the level of an old gate of the city. Classified since 1931, the building with the facade has a large room on the first floor where meetings of the council are still held.
See next, the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul erected at the same time (eighteenth) on the foundations of an old building in ruins. Built in local stones (white inside and red on the outside), it is neo-classical: we note in particular the pyramidal shapes, pediments or cupolas and the bell tower surmounting a square porch. Its arrow rises to almost 50 m from the ground.
At the level of the hamlet of Cortiambles, the Romanesque church Saint Martin, listed, dates from the twelfth century for its oldest parts. During restoration, it includes two spans, one of which has chapels added to the 15th. On the hamlet of Russilly, the church dates from the 18th century but inside, some tombstones date from the 16th century. Primarily, the roof of the building consisted of lava. Tiles replaced them.
Back in the city center, the round market which housed a grain market at the beginning of the 19th century. This atypical building now hosts exhibitions. Nearby, there is the beautifully crafted Dolphins fountain of the eighteenth century: with a semi-circular basin, adorned with carved shells and dolphins, it supports a pyramid engraved with signs of the zodiac.
At the option of strolls on the territory, we will still admire a 19th century wash house in Cortiambles, the old fortified house of La Saulgeot (16th, remodeled in the 18th century) on the edge of the forest, an old bread oven in Russilly or still the old houses of the hamlet of Poncey (XVII).
All these sites can be included in marked hiking trails, such as of course the forest of Givry in the south (vast 1000 hectares), the fountain of Fontaine Covered and of course vineyards on the hillsides. Walkers, cyclists and rollerbladers can also take advantage of the greenway built in place of an old railway. The greenway connects Chalon to Charmay and takes the territory of Givry. Following a course at the Cefedem in Lyon, he obtained the Diplôme d'Etat for specialist teaching of early music in 2010, and now works mainly in Burgundy. - Isabelle Lubrano Lavadera : She discovered early music at the age of 20 after studying the cello. It was the viola da gamba that caught her ear, so she embarked on a new musical adventure at the Villeurbanne Conservatoire. It was an opportunity to meet many new people and to immerse herself totally in the world of early music. As she felt at home there, she went on to perfect her skills with Wieland Kuijken and Marianne Muller. During her years of study, she had the opportunity to play in a variety of ensembles, and above all to discover the profession of continuo player, which she particularly enjoys. In 2012, with Emilie Volle, they formed the ensemble 'La Ciaccona', an ensemble that explores different musical colours and constantly renews itself in its projects. She follows her path, strewn with lace and delicacy, with Les Galants Caprices. Today, in addition to La Ciaccona, she is lucky enough to play regularly with a storyteller, she is a music teacher in schools and gives private lessons, works with a viola da gamba consort and is delighted to be part of the ensemble L'esperluette & Cie.
