Set in the Loir-et-Cher department in central France, Loire Valley, the town of Vineuil takes place about four kilometers from Blois, the department tourist mecca. One that takes its name from the Latin vinea, vine, and the Gallic ialo, clearing, is now a popular place for tourists wishing to spend a quiet holiday and full of interest.

Ideally located, the town of Vineuil allows to discover the most beautiful sites in the region, like the Castle of Blois and its famous staircase, or to enjoy the surrounding nature. Green and very quiet, the town lends itself wonderfully to effect family walks or outdoor recreation.

Some interesting tourist sites and other historical monuments are also the charm of this town that has preserved an important heritage.

Things to see and do

City Vineuil highlights a number of important tourist and historical sites to explore during a few walks.

Vineuil is crossed by several bridges chartrains that allowed to cross the Loire and the Cosson, and this, until 1770. They show the path taken previously by pilgrims wishing to go to Saint-Jacques de Compostela.

The oldest part of the church of St. Martin dates from the late twelfth century. Partly rebuilt in the sixteenth century, it was equipped with a bell tower of pseudo-Gothic facade in the mid nineteenth century.

The square pit takes place in the pleasant Feuillare Park. Installed in 1838, the pond became a fishing and walking to the locals. The whole is surrounded by large alleys of willows. The pit Pimpeneau is also an important fishing ground in the region.

On the left bank of Cosson, visitors can admire the latest menhir, remains of three monuments that once were seated there. According to legend, they were thrown Gargantua because these stones that had crept into his shoes annoyed him to walk.

Vineuil markets take place on Wednesday afternoon and Sunday morning.
