The Dubarry or John Barry is located in the historic center of Toulouse Place Saint Sernin, opposite the famous Basilica.
It was built from 1777 by Jean Dubarry, courtier and close to Louis XV who had left Paris after the death of King. He had, however, allotted generous pension after Dubarry had allowed his own mistress to become that of the sovereign...
The building was built on plots that housed including former mansion Dejean Marshal of Roquemaure, which was demolished.
Richly decorated (paintings and mural paintings including mythological or romantic scenes, wood paneling, marble columns...), the mansion Dubarry becomes an educational institution belonging to the Benedictine nuns in 1817, the old courtier who was guillotined in 1794 its property confiscated and sold.
At the end of the nineteenth century, the sisters left the scene after selling part of the decor and furniture. In 1883, the building was built at the Lycée Saint-Sernin and the subject of a restoration in the 1930s.
To date, his noble facade, the grand staircase and the remains of the original rich decoration are protected as historical monuments but the site is occupied by the high school.
