Luynes is a commune in the department of Indre-et-Loire. Typical small town in the Touraine region, it is located not far from the Regional Natural Park Loire-Anjou-Touraine. Crossed by the Loire river World Heritage of UNESCO, it dates at least from the Middle Ages and was called before Maille.

Quiet little city, Luynes offers a unique historical and architectural heritage, all in a natural setting of the most enchanting. You can admire many remarkable monuments, and proximity to the city of Tours offers the opportunity to discover one of the most beautiful cities of the region.

Besides tourism, visitors can learn about the gastronomy of the region, very rich, especially the pleasure of rillettes de Touraine, whose Brotherhood was born in Luynes in 1977. It is not difficult to go with the sweet life that reigns in this city with wealth.

Things to see and do

Luynes, located in the perimeter of the Loire Valley, World Heritage of UNESCO, is full of attractions to explore and enjoy.

Luynes Castle, built in the twelfth century, is located on the heights of the city. It still has buildings ranging from the twelfth to the fourteenth century and was listed historic monument in the early twentieth century. Private property, he may, however, visit daily from March to September. In addition to the barns, the dungeon, stables, or the brick house, one can also enjoy the architecture of the castle chapel, as well as the charm of the park.

On the list of Historical Monuments, the Roman aqueduct dating from the second century, will now present ruins. However, they remain impressive, and it is the most imposing aqueduct still visible in the west of France.

Events and festivities

Luynes is an active and cultural town that every year puts forward its many attractions and other traditions.

Luynes The weekly market takes place every Saturday morning. In summer, the city also offers a very interesting night market with local artisans. December is the opportunity to enjoy the festivities of the Christmas market.

In June, Luynes proposes each year its famous feast of Saint John with many other festivities and balls of all kinds.

In early July, the short film festival takes place Luynes, with screenings of short films and meetings with film professionals.

Every year, between July and August, Luynes is one of the cities hosting the theater festival in Val Luynes. Classical and modern theater pieces are available in the course of the castles of the region.
