City of Reading, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Lorette takes place about twenty kilometers from Saint-Étienne, just above the coal basin of the Loire.
Originally a group of hamlets, the town was really born in the 19th century thanks to the development of coal mining. This mining operation in particular encouraged many blacksmiths to settle in the region, on the banks of the Gier. Lorette then experienced incredible growth thanks to industrialization, particularly in the metallurgy and textile sectors.
Recognized as a municipality in its own right in 1847 and the first new town in France, Lorette today attracts visitors with its dynamism and the charm of its infrastructure.
