The gates of the mountains, Le Monteil is a green from where several hiking trails, dotted with many ancient crosses all ages. Common agricultural vocation mainly based on the production of meat and milk, it is composed of many small hamlets whose charm can not under any circumstances leave visitors indifferent.

Le Monteil includes many small businesses, a farm inn, many hotels and three picnic areas in the town center, with Chastel Marlhac and Auteroche.

Things to see and do

Chastel Marlhac tray is naturally defended by high basalt cliffs. This plateau has always attracted man, and some archaeological evidence of a Celtic presence of a Gallic oppidum then became a Roman fortress. The book "Chasing the secret Chastel" is a fun treasure hunt (13 km - 12 stops). It is available in the Tourist territory.

Milhac: More than 700 m above sea level, this small hamlet is located on the edge of the plateau Trizac resulting from a basaltic rocks ending Milhac, remarkable cliffs overlooking the valley Sumène. The cross of 1826, the arched fountain, leaning against the oven bread and bakery in 1849, volcanic stone houses and farm buildings dating from the seventeenth century, a period of prosperity in rural areas, make Milhac a village worth visiting. In 2005, the village received the first prize of the Auvergne region to safeguard the local heritage. The people who maintain couderc together, also bloom each year to beautify their village.
