Antignac is a small town of 283 inhabitants in an area of 16 square kilometers. It is irrigated by three fish-bearing streams, rivers Rhue of the North and the South Sumène. It is crossed in its middle by the main stream of Sulu.
Historically, Antignac received human occupation, at least since the times Celtic and Gallo-Roman, as evidenced by some archaeological remains. The Middle Ages, Antignac retains three churches. The old priory church of St. Robert has its origin in the second half of the 11th century, around 1060. This is the founder of La Chaise-Dieu, St. Robert of Turlande in person, which undertook the foundation. Listed building this building overlooks the valley of the Sumène on a rocky promontory above the village of Vignon. The church of Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens, old Romanesque chapel of the 12th century, was expanded over the centuries, but painted frescoes on the ceiling of the nave in the 18th century. The former parish church of Salsignac, originally dedicated to Saint Ferréol originated in the 12th century, but it was completely rebuilt in the 15th century under the control of Prieur de Bort, Pierre de Balzac, which it retains the arms.
