Located in the Dordogne, on the territory of the town of Jumilhac-le-Grand, the castle of Jumilhac is a castle remodeled in the Renaissance listed historical monument. Originally built in the 13th century, it was restructured in the 17th and 18th centuries. Put in receivership during the French Revolution, it is saved from destruction thanks to the local installation of the Municipality and the Popular Society. Exploitation of sheep farming in the nineteenth century, the castle of Jumilhac burns in the early nineteenth century.
Sold to the Count of Rochechouart, the building passes hands in hands in the early twentieth century. Completely restored, it became open to the public in 1964. However, it was not until the 2000s that outdoor terraces regained their appearance of French gardens. Since 2002, the Richelieu salons can also host seminars, receptions or even concerts.
Full of charm, the castle of Jumilhac has also served as a filming location for the Pact of Wolves, or the TV movie, Richelieu, Purple and Blood. Guided tours are organized all year long, as well as nocturnal visits, or even visits to the roofs.
