Jayac, which is sometimes spelled Gayac, Geac, Gaiac in ancient writings means the range of Gaius, Gallo-Roman name of person. Termination action comes from the Latin acum, which "belongs to". Jaiac in Occitan.
The history of Jayac (first mentioned in 1251 in the will of the Vicomte de Turenne) is mainly due to the lords of Carbonnières from 1417.
The most remarkable achievement of this family is that of John Carbonnières who, during the Hundred Years War, took by surprise Domme, occupied by the British for 21 years, and that Charles was the sixth king of France negotiating the purchase.

Jayac lost his café, post office, grocery, forge and his school taught that, in the years 1905-1930, parents Delbos. It was replaced by the School of Science, visited by students Borrèze Salignac-Eyvigues, Saint Crepin-et-Carlucet, Saint-Genies and Proissans. This gives a little life to a village fast asleep now. Whereas, to 1869-1870, a pseudo miraculous apparition of the Virgin in the neighboring valley of Bidonnerie, reported by the novelist périgourdin Eugène Le Roy, drew a considerable crowd of pilgrims and curious. Deception stopped in confusion and laugh when, probably tired of waiting for the announced public appearance, a woman would climb on the rock of the apparition beside a rustic altar decorated nicely and piously, which were suspended waffles, and reportedly shouted: Want to see a miracle? Well here it is! Turning away, she would have shown her behind ... said to be, noting nimbly skirts and petticoats. The next source is still called the Fountain of the Holy.
