Pretty village perched on a hill of the Loire, Cordelle takes place seventy-five miles from Saint-Etienne, above the plain Roanne. It is located about fifteen kilometers from Roanne, near Saint-Maurice-sur-Loire and Villerest.
The one called Cordella in the eleventh century has a very heavy historical past. Populated since prehistoric times, as evidenced by the many remains found on site, the territory has also experienced a Gallo-Roman occupation. But it was in the course of the Middle Ages, especially around the tenth century, that the city really developed with the appearance of the first convents. The city was especially famous for its wine production, as well as for its mineral water exploited until the twentieth century.
Today, Cordelle continues to attract visitors with its special charm and interesting architectural heritage.
