The former Benedictine Abbey of Saint-Génis-des-Fontaines, founded in the 8th century, has kept a church dedicated to St Michael as a reminder of its monastic past; the west door is remarkable for its superb Romanesque white marble lintel. Embellished by a representation of Christ in Majesty, this lintel dating from 1019-1020 is the oldest dated Romanesque stone sculpture! A 13th century cloister, remarkable for its multi-coloured marble, will round off your visit.
