Every summer in early August, the picturesque medieval village of Lama in Haute-Corse is turned into a real outdoor cinema. This week-long festival with a difference offers twenty or so feature film premières, programmes for children, a short film competition and documentary screenings on the theme of the rural world in France and abroad. The event is growing more popular every year and winning over increasingly large numbers of summer visitors thanks to the high quality of the free screenings and the beauty of the scenery and the village.
The Lama Film Festival also offers an opportunity to attend lectures, symposia, round tables and music events. The film screenings take place at three different sites: the swimming pool, which offers a spectacular view of the mountains and the Corsican scrubland, Place de l'Umbria (reserved for auteur cinema and the short film competition), and the Mercatu at the centre of the village, where cushions and pillows are provided.
For the documentaries, the festival sets up an air-conditioned video room with fifty seats at the Casa Di Lama. Film-making and scriptwriting workshops are available for young people throughout the festival.
