Former Cistercian abbey of the 10th century, the Abbey of Notre-Dame de Bellaigue is a Benedictine abbyey located in the town of Virlet, in the Puy-de-Dôme. Classified and listed as a Historic Monument, it reveals a very beautiful 12th century church and convent buildings rebuilt in the 18th century following a fire.
Installed in the same location as the original medieval building, it unveils to its visitors a gatehouse and a 14th century tower in a style rare in France. Difficult to miss the abbey house or the main staircase with wooden balustrade and an extension by helical staircase whose screw is made of a single piece of wood.
