Island history, ethnography and traditional activities: the Museum of the island of Oléron, in Saint-Pierre d'Oléron, is an excellent introduction to the discovery of the island. Its permanent collection shows the evolution of men on the island territory of the Neolithic (manufacture of jewelry from shells) to the present. The chronological exhibition rooms can follow the themes of salt production, viticulture, the tapping, fisheries, traditional costumes, habitat... The soundscapes through oral former Oleron testimonies, interactive technologies, films contribute to the vibrancy of the place.
