- Coal has been the main resource of the city of La Machine for almost 200 years. Its exploitation led to the drilling of wells to a depth of 690 meters, the construction of several workers' cities and the recruitment of hundreds of blackmouths. Open since 1983, the Mine Museum is made up of two sites:
- The museum, housed in the former administrative headquarters of the "Houillères", traces the history of coal and the lives of miners. You will also find the directors' office, a large map room, a model of the city, collections of minerals, fossils and numerous testimonies of mining history. Every year a temporary exhibition is offered to you.
- The Glénons well. On the site of its former activity, you will share the harsh working conditions of minors, women, children and animals. This unique space, under the guidance of guides, will plunge you into the world of darkness that was theirs. Lights and helmets will be provided for the visit. It is advisable to wear flat shoes.
- Temporary exhibition 2021 "At the origins of La Machine":
- The new temporary exhibition of the Museum focuses on the history of La Machine even before its creation as a municipality, and its exploitation intensive of its coal. This historical exhibition will look at medieval and modern periods.
- Composed of explanatory panels, maps, and portraits among others, it will present you with unpublished documents relating to a very little known period in the Nivernais.
