Kerlaz

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Finistère

Village of Finistère being part of the Pays Glazik, Kerlaz takes place on the bay of Douarnenez, between beaches, countryside and forest. It is located not far from Locronan, Tréboul and Guengat, at the crossroads of Crozon and the Quimper region.

Occupied since prehistoric times, as evidenced by the Bronze Age tomb found near the Coz-Castel manor, the territory of Kerlaz developed from Gallo-Roman times, before becoming an independent parish in the second half of the 19th century.

Both a rural and coastal town, Kerlaz reveals to its visitors an important heritage testifying to a past rich in traditions and events.

Things to see and do

Built between the 16th and 17th centuries, the Saint-Germain church benefits from a classification as a Historic Monument, as does its parish enclosure. In the shape of a Latin cross, it includes a belfry-wall, a nave with aisles of three bays separated by a diaphragm arch, a transept and a shallow choir. You can admire very beautiful statues of Saint Germain, Saint Michel, Saint Even or Saint Christophe.

While strolling through the town, do not miss to admire the various crosses present everywhere, the 16th century ossuary which has become a chapel of the fonts and which adjoins the church, or the famous Saint -Germain. Located at the exit of the village, it is dedicated to Saint Germain l'Auxerrois and dates from the 17th century. Its water, which flows and pours into three small basins, is said to be miraculous according to local legend.

To enjoy sunny days, head for Trezmalaouen beach or the very beautiful coastal paths. The GR 34 in particular offers a breathtaking view of the bay of Douarnenez, the beaches of Riz and Trezmalaouen. Also take advantage of the very beautiful Plomarc'h coastal path in Douarnenez or head towards the Névet wood, known for its walks accessible by mountain bike, on horseback, on foot or even for people with reduced mobility.
