The Château de Montigny is located in the town of Charny Orée de Puisaye, in the department of Yonne, 24 km south-east of Château-Renard.
It was raised in the 17th century to the south-east of the town, by the Montigny family, in a classical style. The building follows a horseshoe plan punctuated by four circular towers. The main house, in the center, is two stories high and has a classic style. Thus, on the rear facade, one can admire a beautiful pediment sculpted in terracotta. On this same facade, a polygonal tower was added in the 20th century.
Behind the estate's stables, from 1735 to 1812 (when it was destroyed), a renowned earthenware factory operated. Examples of beautiful earthenware, some dating from the revolutionary era, are kept in the castle's dining room.
The estate, which became the property of the Estampes family in 1836, saw its interiors transformed.
The site protected as historical monuments also applies to its exteriors and its vast park, which are perfectly maintained and suitable for walks, horseback riding and picnics!
Cultural events are hosted. Open to the public in May and July on weekends and public holidays, in August from Wednesday to Sunday and in September on weekends. Price: 8 euros. Information on +33 6 09 91 49 39.
