Italian Renaissance castle located in the municipality of Chançay, in Indre-et-Loire, Castle Valmer was built in the sixteenth century. Listed historic monument, the building has seen its main building entirely destroyed in the late 1940s following a fire.
Addictions, Louis XIII pavilion or the cave chapel carved in the heart of a rock are still visible. The latter has a beautiful bas-relief polychrome stone recovered in the late nineteenth century a few kilometers away.
But it is mainly for its terraced gardens that Castle Valmer is appreciated by visitors. Labeled Remarkable Garden, they extend over nearly five hectares including the terrace Fronts, the high terrace of the Charmilles with green rooms, the terrace vases of Anduze, the terrace of Leda, the Terrace of the Florentine fountains still a beautiful garden of one hectare.
