The Château de Verchant (now called Domaine de Verchant) is located in the town of Castelnau-le-Lez, a few kilometers north-east of Montpellier.
It was originally a noble 16th century residence bought by the Countess de Verchant (who gave it its name) from the Bishop of Montpellier.
The whole was deeply altered in the 19th century by Jules Leehardt, wine grower and art lover who asked the architect and landscape designer Eugène Bühler to make it a "Montpellier madness", in other words a second home and amenity endowed with a park dotted with ditches, caves, statues, tree-lined paths…
The property has now become a luxury hotel and its park adjoins vineyard plots that have been enhanced.
The estate offers around twenty rooms in a small restored castle surrounded by a beautiful park.
Unless you are a customer, the whole which is protected as historical monuments, can be admired from the outside. Information on +33 4 67 07 26 00.
