Built in the first half of the 19th century, just after that of Brégille, the fort de Beauregard de Besançon, in the Doubs, is a small fort with a polygonal layout. Enlarged and modified in the second half of the 19th century, it is the work of the architect Jacob François Marulaz, French general of the Revolution and the Empire.
Little by little abandoned because considered obsolete, the site deteriorated over the years until a major rehabilitation campaign in the town of Besançon. Today a place of conviviality very appreciated by the inhabitants, it has been converted into a square and offers a breathtaking view of the old town.
