The town of Meung-sur-Loire's rich past is revealed through its château (the former residence of the bishops of Orléans), the medieval gateway of Amont, remains of ramparts, old houses and the 11th- and 13th-century Saint-Liphard collegiate church.

There is also pleasant walking along the Mauves, small rivers that cross the town.

Meung-sur-Loire

Between Sologne and the Beauce, the beautiful city of Meung-sur-Loire offers charm and poetry. Small town of 6388 inhabitants is located near the royal river, the Loire, 17 km from Orleans to Blois 35 km and 145 km from Paris. In the Sleeper Du Val, Arthur Rimbaud wrote "This is a green hollow where a river sings??" Meung-sur-Loire is a bit like a town between Loire and Purple, between Beauce and Sologne, in the heart of the Val Loire Valley of Kings. A location is both peaceful and dynamic, where it takes its time and the time to live but all full of energy.

It is a showcase for treasures

The castle the two faces of the bishops of Orleans, with a medieval facade and a 18th century facade, is a hotbed of architectural treatises where the centuries have left a borrows.

A jewel of religious heritage: The collegiate church of Saint-Liphard proudly stands and contemplates the Loire for nearly a thousand years.

A maze of old streets with charming houses half-timbered or stone sculptures to delicate, the flower gardens?? where reigns supreme Gate of Upstream, the only witness of the ramparts that once encircled Magdunum.

Stroll around and learn at a street corner a statue, a mullioned window, a place with lime, let you enjoy the soothing sound of Purple, these small rivers crossing the city, which carried the paddles of mills.

Take the time to enter one of the string instruments, get drunk smells of varnish, wood, and learn the skills of craftsmen.

Follow the footsteps of one of the many poets magdunois.

Listen, prick up your ears?? Francois Villon whispers a few lines from his prison.

Jehan de Meun will tell you the Roman de la Rose.

And to know the life of "earth-eating" read Gaston Couté there, near the mill of his parents??, Seduced by the dialect beauceron to original sources.

Others also have been able to enjoy the peace and wealth Meung-sur-Loire. Ingres tasted here "perfect happiness, tranquility and good family," Dumas did not deceive them by prefacing "The Three Musketeers," Maigret and runs a quiet retreat.

Join the vibrant magdunoise through the many activities offered throughout the year. The calendar of festivals and animations are loaded, but you can choose to come to Meung-sur-Loire for the fair of Saint Martin in November?? or in June for medieval feasts or Festicolor, participate in "Paint Draw Meung-sur-Loire in the street" in September, the Halloween activities in October or at Christmas.

The city is rich in cultural discovery: theater, cinema, library, museum, concerts and a nightly show, exhibitions??

The many associations, cultural and sports and offer great many possibilities for escape.

So Meung-sur-Loire is not the place of "green where a river sings"? Come and see for yourself ...
