Villeneuve-la-Guyard

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Yonne

Municipality of Yonne, in the Burgundy - Franche-Comté region, Villeneuve-la-Guyard takes place at the edge of Seine-et-Marne, about twenty kilometers from Sens. It is located about a hundred kilometers from Auxerre, not far from Villeblevin, Champigny or Chaumont.

Occupied since prehistoric times, as evidenced by the remains found there, the territory of Villeneuve-la-Guyard was in the Middle Ages the property of the viscount of Sens. The town still enjoys a privileged location, close to three towns that have strongly marked the history of France: Provins, Fontainebleau and Sens.

Dynamic and pleasant, the Burgundian city of Villeneuve-la-Guyard offers its visitors an attractive setting for its visitors with the richness of its natural landscapes and the banks of the Yonne.

Things to see and do

Listed as an historic monument, the Saint-Germain church was built between the 12th and 16th centuries, when the town became independent. The building consists of a wide nave with four bays and separated from the aisles by rows of cylindrical piers. Place of reception of the burials of the noblest parishioners of the city, as shown by the epitaph painted on one of the south pillars of the nave, it underwent a major restoration campaign in the 2010s.

Mais c Villeneuve-la-Guyard is also popular with visitors for its natural setting. After a stroll on the banks of the Yonne, it is possible to learn about fishing on the various ponds, water sports or even hiking with the various signposted circuits in the surrounding area.
