At the heart of the countryside, a magnificent park boasting a rose garden and orchard makes a stunning backdrop for Vallery Castle. The main business of this listed site, which covers 5 hectares of parkland and 60 hectares of forest, is as a venue for celebrations and weddings, but you can visit by appointment. And it's well worth the effort...

This former property of Louis de Bourbon, the first Prince of Condé, designed by the architect of the Louvre between 1548 and 1560, was once home to such great figures as Jean de la Fontaine, Cardinal Richelieu and four kings of France. On this superb estate, visitors can immerse themselves in the atmosphere of another century by admiring the Renaissance building, medieval ramparts, old castle and postern.

In the Renaissance gardens, which are listed historic monuments, you can see one of the largest dovecotes in France. With its 2,844 pigeonholes, it's also remarkable for having been converted into a bridal suite! On the bridle path, you can also see the oak tree planted in 1621 for the birth of the fourth Prince of Condé.
