Saint-Pierre-es-Champs is a commune of the Oise, in the Hauts-de-France region, 30 km west of Beauvais, on the borders of the Eure and Seine-Maritime.
The territory of the area of 10 km² is bordered on the west by the course of the Epte, a tributary of the Seine considered the geographical and historical boundary between Picardy and Normandy.
Already occupied during the Neolithic and later in Antiquity, archaeological excavations have uncovered weapons dating from the Stone Age and Roman coins on the site of Côte Sainte-Hélène, which dominates the Epte to 190 m of altitude, the village is erected in parish since the ninth century.
Over the centuries, Saint-Pierre-es-Champs benefited from relative prosperity thanks to the exploitation of its peat bogs, in humid areas, from which valuable fuel was extracted. This activity lasted until 1962. At that time, sheep farming was also abandoned on the slopes overlooking the peat bogs.
This entire natural area with an exceptional ecosystem is now protected and, along with Côte Sainte-Hélène, constitutes a heritage and tourist asset of the first order. Designed and developed, the site itself justifies a stage in Saint-Pierre-es-Champs, which has about 700 inhabitants.
